Depression among suicide bombers?

The Boston Globe has an article pointing out that depression and not the desire for jihad may be a driving factor in the deaths of my suicide bombers.

Brian Williams, an associate professor of Islamic studies at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, is among a small group of scholars looking looking at this concept. "These scholars found that 40 percent of the terrorists showed suicidal tendencies; 13 percent had made previous suicide attempts, unrelated to terrorism."  The researchers points out that "Islam forbids suicide... Suicide is a problem, but martyrdom is not."
