This is actually a great article in the Chicago Tribune by Steve Chapman saying that gun control still won't work. He makes some great arguments of why various measures that anti-gunners have recently proposed just won't work. Here is one of his comments regarding a ban on 'high' capacity mags.
But Jared Loughner apparently put some planning into this attack, and had the laws been different, he might have planned around them...
First it was guns and then it was knives. Now a british man is charged with assault after his snowball hit a police community support officer in the UK.
BAE Systems is marketing a ship board laser to stop pirates. The laser has a range of 2km as a 'visual warning' that they have been targeted. But as they get closer the strength of the beam is like looking at the Sun, making it impossible to aim rifles or RPGs at the ship. No damage is caused making this a non lethal laser beam. It uses a Neodymium Yttrium Aluminium Garnet laser which is an effective deterrent at relatively low power levels.
There are lots of programs with good intentions that don't improve security (you know who you are). AMBER alerts are not perfect but personally I think the costs and occasional error are worth the benefits. Now with Facebook joining AMBER the entire system might benefit. Facebook users that subscribe to the alerts for their area will then have the information pushed to their desktops and even mobile devices.
If you are looking for a serious window mount for your iPhone then this is it. Ram Mounts is getting rave reviews and offers products for all types of functions and settings from your 4x4 to your bicycle.
MSNBC is hosting the OMB document on their website. This is an 11 page report on how to various US Government agencies can prevent future leaks. Maybe this is just a rough draft because it doesn't sound like the strategy has been implemented. Or perhaps this was just test to see if it worked which in this case I don't think it did.
Seriously. I am not making this up. In fact I don't know where to start but reading the lastest TSA blog left me shaking my head once again. Its titled "A Friendly Suggestion on Products Designed to Conceal Sensitive Areas" and is in reference to male and female underwear that is now available that blocks the AIT naked body scanners from seeing your genitals. Being that they are underwear the blocking is limited to well only your genitals.
Ok so we all need to practice personal security and we need to make sure our family knows how to protect themselves too. But from the 'training' video the Kick Dummy seems like this thing is designed around crotch shots which leaves me a little puzzled.
John Garber, an innocent bystander, caught a stray bullet while working as a valet at Halo in Midtown Atlanta. Lucky for him the bullet was stopped by his smartphone, an HTC EVO 4G. From the report it appears that its the battery that actually stops the bullet.
