Update: M&P22 handgun in 22LR coming this summer

I was just told by Smith Wesson Corp that their M&P22 pistol will hit retail stores this July 2011. This is great news. I already own two M&Ps (service & compact) and having a 22LR version is going to be very important part of my training and practice.

S&W released the M&P22 during Shot Show 2010 but some delays have pushed back the retail launch date. Here are some of the features included in the Shot Show models:

This new pistol is designed to compete against the Judge. I think these would make great car guns where you could load the first couple of rounds with #2 shot for close in defense and then it would switch to maybe the 45 Colt.

Like many of you do I enjoy watching Nutnfancy videos on YouTube. Today he just posted "1911 Handgun Philosophy of Use". Its well worth a watch and while you may not agree with all of his thoughts, I appreciate that he spells the pros and cons out in detail.

A few of his key comments:

Not sure that I really need this gun but I would love to give it a try. Never know when you might get attacked by an angry mob of water moccasin snakes. The dimensions almost look cartoon-like with the big slab sides and comparitively small trigger guard. It would make an expensive snake gun at $2000. The accessory list says it comes with a duck call which seems a little odd... maybe I should give this gun a spin on the clay course.
