Drug gangs going online in the UK

University of Manchester research team in the UK see drug gangs evolving. Some of the key points:

  1. Graffiti tagging doesn't directly relate to local presence or spike in new members
  2. Drug gangs are not overly territorial
  3. "The view that gangs regularly fight turf wars to protect drug-dealing areas was also questioned in the report."
  4. Guns are difficult to obtain "and cost between £2,000 and £4,000"

Dynamic LCD sunglasses give SOCOM the edge

The Office of Naval Research is deploying some very high tech sunglasses. They use LCDs to dynamically adjust to light levels around the user. Called Fast-Tint Protective Eyewear (FTPE) it changes color in less then 0.5 seconds. Its like your fancy eyeglasses on steroids. So rather then have to stop and swap lenses or remove their eye protection, they can just keep these bad boys on the whole time.
